In a study conducted by the ATSB on General Aviation accidents
between 1991 and 2000, 43% of the 196 fatal accidents were
attributed to Uncontrolled Flight Into Terrain (UFIT). A further 32%
were attributed to Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT), which tells us
that modern flying training does not fully prepare a pilot for all stages
of flight.
Clearly additional training is necessary to fill the gaps – not just for
professional pilots, but also private pilots. At Advanced Cockpit
Flight Training the Emergency Manoeuvre Training course (EMT)
includes the syllabus components - Unusual Attitude Recoveries,
Stall Spin Awareness, and Advanced Aircraft Handling, that receive
little if any attention during a pilot’s training. When faced with these
situations, pilots without Emergency Manoeuvre Training will react
instinctively usually resulting in incorrect actions during a critical
phase of flight.
Emergency Manoeuvre Training is designed to change the
instinctive reactions of a pilot and to equip pilots with the tools and
skills necessary to recover back to the normal flight regime. The
course is designed to increase a pilots visual acuity, or ability to
detect changes, their ability to detect and analyse trends and
increase their knowledge of recovery actions.
Advanced Cockpit Flight Training is the only school in Western
Australia to provide Emergency Manoeuvre Training in a safe,
controlled environment, by expert instructors from both General
Aviation and Military backgrounds.
